How can we cultivate disciplined habits to fight gluttony? When does enjoying food become gluttony? The issue is not one large meal or celebrating with a feast. Gluttony begins when appetite becomes a master—when food is habitually used to escape discomfort, chase a reward, or satisfy cravings without self-control.
In this episode of Men Who Understood the Times, Michael and Zachary are joined by personal trainer and online nutrition coach Sam Stuebs. They examine what Scripture says about gluttony, how modern food culture encourages overindulgence, and why abundance can become spiritually dangerous when we forget the Giver. They also discuss the physical, mental, and spiritual consequences of being ruled by cravings—and how Christians can receive food as God’s good gift without becoming enslaved to it.
Scripture discussed includes Proverbs 23:20–21, Proverbs 25:16, Proverbs 30:7–9, Philippians 3:18–19, 1 Corinthians 6:12–20, 1 Corinthians 9:27, 2 Peter 2:19, Deuteronomy 6:10–12, and Amos 6:1–7.
